Gaststätte "Zur Fabrik"
The locals know that there is one place in the neighbourhood to visit if you want to have a good time: Zur Fabrik. Built into an old linen factory that dates back to the 19th century, Zur Fabrik was taken over by the Wagner family in 1990 and completely renovated. Now we offer a nostalgic atmosphere with a diverse selection of beer, wine and creative cooking for your enjoyment, as well as an interesting crowd and traditional Viennese hospitality.
We accept debit and credit cards, including Diners Club and American Express. On warmer and sunny days we are happy to offer our outside seating when the weather allows.
The history of our building
In 1908, Otto Taussig opened the Otto Taussig & Co linen factory in Gaudenzdorf, which was at the time the centre of industry in Vienna. They made exquisite collars and cuffs, shirts and neckerchiefs as well as women’s clothing. At its height, 300 people were employed at our location. The factory closed in 1975, a result of the rise of cheap clothing from Asia and the Third World.
The building was empty until 1990, when the Wagner family took it over and completely renovated, allowing space for office and for a gallery for young artists. The restaurant Zur Fabrik first opened its doors in 1998, and the building was converted into a hotel in 2009.
